Missouri softball takes two on Saturday
The Tigers breezed through another day of the Missouri Breast Cancer Awareness Tournament, winning by run-rule in both games.
Freshman pitcher Lindsey Muller had a career game against SEMO in game one, throwing a complete game shutout as well as going 3-4 with four RBIs at bat, including a three-run homer in the fifth inning.
Missouri once again got hot early, scoring seven runs in the first inning off SEMO sophomore pitcher Stefanie Barnes. Junior reserve outfielder Lisa Simmons took advantage of some added playing time, going 2-for-2 with a run scored. The Tigers ended the game early with six runs in the fifth, winning 13-0.
Missouri State did not provide any more of a challenge for the surging Tigers in game two. Missouri sophomore pitcher Kristin Nottelmann baffled the MSU hitters, going all five innings for the complete game shutout. Nottelmann allowed only one base runner, a bunt single in the third inning.
The Tigers continued their trend of scoring in the first inning, plating three runs on three hits. The Missouri freshmen provided much of the offense against the Bears, with third baseman Nicole Hudson and shortstop Jenna Marston going a combined 4 for 5 with five RBIs. The Tigers once again ended the game in the fifth inning when junior reserve infielder Abby Vock scored on a passed ball, pushing the score to 8-0.
The Tigers extended their win streak to nine games, and improved to 3-0 in the tournament. Missouri looks to stay perfect as they conclude the Breast Cancer Awareness Tournament Sunday at 1:30 p.m. against UMKC. Missouri is 46-1 all time against UMKC.
