For the second week in a row, a Missouri coach announced a resignation.

After women’s basketball coach Cindy Stein said last week she will step down at the conclusion of the season, swimming and diving coach Brian Hoffer announced Tuesday he will be stepping down, according to an Athletics Department release.

Assistant head coach Chris Peters was elevated to interim head coach for the rest of this season.

The release stated Hoffer resigned to “pursue other opportunities.”

During his 18 years coaching the teams, the women’s squad had 12-straight winning seasons and the men’s squad put up 10 winning campaigns. Under his watch, Missouri had six conference champs and eight All-Americans.

“It’s a tough decision to make, but it’s the right one at the right time,” Hoffer said in the release. “Mizzou has been an incredible place to be for these 18 years, and we’ve achieved so much and grown so much – it’s almost unbelievable to look back and see just how far the program has come. My family and I love Mizzou and Columbia, but it just feels like now is the right time to move on and hand over the reins to someone else. It’s been a great run here and I’ll miss it, but I’m excited about the future, as well.”

The release stated a national search for a new coach will commence at the end of the season.
