Missouri men’s basketball coach Mike Anderson is officially staying with the Tigers.
After days of speculation about Anderson possibly filling the coaching vacancy at Oregon, Missouri released a statement Saturday night where the coach put an end to any rumors he is leaving MU.
Here is the statement in its entirety:
“It’s certainly flattering anytime another university notices what your program is accomplishing and when I was approached by Oregon, I decided to listen, but it was simply with my family in mind. All that quick conversation did was reaffirm that Missouri is home to us.
Mike Alden, Chancellor Deaton and President Forsee were supportive throughout this process and we plan on taking Tiger Basketball to new heights. Oregon is a great university, but Mizzou is a special place for me and my family and I’m proud to be your basketball coach here at Mizzou.”
On Thursday The Oregonian reported Anderson sat down with former Oregon athletics director Pat Kilkenny in El Paso, Texas to discuss the job.
Anderson signed a seven-year contract in April 2009 and will enter his fifth season as Missouri’s coach this fall.
