Tepesch earns win over Oklahoma State

In the first game of a three-game set, Missouri baseball beat Oklahoma State 9-2 Friday. It was the first time this season the Tigers won the first game of a conference series. In fact, Missouri lost the first two games and won the last game of all three conference series before this one.

Junior pitcher Nick Tepesch, who came into the game 2-3 on the season, pitched well in seven innings of work. Tepesch allowed two runs on four hits and struck out eight Cowboy hitters.

“His changeup and his slider were phenomenal, this was probably the best I’d seen him throw those two pitches all season,” said junior catcher Brett Nicholas of Tepesch.

Junior Kelly Fick closed out the game for Missouri with two shutout innings.

Nicholas was the offensive star for Missouri on Friday. Nicholas was 2-for-3 with a two-run home-run to put the Tigers on the board and ahead for good in the fourth inning. Nicholas also scored three of the Missouri’s six runs.

Sophomore left fielder Russell LaFleur had two RBI hits for Missouri, and freshman right fielder Dane Opel, centerfielder Blake Brown and second baseman Eric Garcia each had one. The Tigers were also helped by three errors by the Cowboys.

The series continues at 3 p.m. Saturday, with the series finale at 1 p.m. Sunday.
