MU tennis welcomes Kansas Friday

Looking to pick up its first Big 12 win of the season, the Missouri women’s tennis team takes the court Friday against rival Kansas at the Green Tennis Center. Both Missouri and Kansas are looking to turn things around in conferences after struggling thus far.

The Tigers (5-11, 0-5 Big 12) are coming off of a loss at Colorado that capped off a recent 0-3 road trip. Prior to the loss in Boulder, Colo., the Tigers fell to Oklahoma and Oklahoma State. Still, there have been a few positives for the Tigers through their recent rough patch. Freshman Andrea Lewis is looking to extend her personal two-match win streak on Friday and junior Mallory Weber will try to improve on her 3-2 conference record.

Meanwhile, the Jayhawks (9-8, 1-4 Big 12) are coming off of a 7-0 shellacking by Kansas State. Just 1-4 in the Big 12 thus far, the Jayhawks would stay ahead of Missouri in the conference standings with a victory on Friday.

Not only is a crucial conference win on the line for both squads, but the squads will also be fighting for three points in the 2009-2010 M&I Bank Border Showdown Series. Missouri took the overall lead in the series with two wins on the softball diamond Wednesday. Now, Kansas has the opportunity to take the lead back to Lawrence, Kan.

Following their match against the Jayhawks, the Tigers will take a day off on Saturday before taking on Kansas State in Columbia on Sunday. The Wildcats (5-8, 2-3 Big 12) were victorious in their last two conference tests, but have also struggled on the road with four straight losses outside Manhattan, Kan.
