Tiger softball bests the Bears

The No. 10 Tigers secured their 40th win of the season in a 9-2 victory over Baylor on Saturday. The Tigers have gone four straight years with 40 or more wins.

Baylor got on the board first with a two-run homer in the second inning off senior pitcher Jana Hainey. However, those would be the only runs Baylor would push across, as Hainey and freshman pitcher Lindsey Muller combined to shut the Bears down for the rest of the game. Hainey improved her record to 8-1 on the season, allowing two runs and five hits in five innings of work.

The Tiger offense surged in the fourth inning, scoring five runs on five hits. A three-run homer from freshman third baseman Nicole Hudson highlighted the scoring.

The Tigers would score two more in the fifth inning, pushing the lead to 7-2. Missouri scored twice again in the sixth inning, putting the game out of reach. Junior outfielder Rhea Taylor hit her fourth triple of the year to start the inning, and was driven in a batter later by freshman shortstop Jenna Marston. Sophomore first baseman Ashley Fleming drove in Marston in the next at-bat with a double. Fleming was a big contributor on the day, going 3-for-3 with an RBI.

The Tigers (40-9, 9-6 Big 12) will try to sweep the series against Baylor tomorrow at noon. This will be the last home game of the regular season for Missouri.
