Tigers' underdog run snapped against Aggies

The Missouri Tigers baseball team had their hopes of a Big 12 title dashed Thursday night as they fell to No. 4 Texas A&M in game two of the conference tournament. The Tigers were defeated 7-2 at Bricktown Ballpark in Oklahoma City.

Texas A&M senior ace Barret Loux took command of the game from pitch one, retiring the first 14 Missouri batters. With the Tiger bats struggling, the A&M offense wasted no time. After a solo shot and a handful of RBI singles, they pieced together a commanding 4-0 lead through six.

The next half inning, freshman second baseman Eric Garcia showed the first signs of life for Missouri as he managed to reach first with two outs. A string of singles by the next three Missouri batters, capped off by senior first baseman Aaron Senne, put the Tigers on the board.

Sophomore designated hitter Conner Mach added his second RBI of the week as the Tiger bats came alive. Missouri managed to match the two runs Texas A&M put on the board in the top of the sixth, making the score 4-2.

The short rally in the sixth inning was all she wrote for the No. 8 underdogs, as the Aggies poured on three more runs in the final innings and held Missouri scoreless for the 7-2 win. Missouri employed six pitchers in the game, with junior lefty Kelly Fick taking the loss after giving up two runs in the first two innings.

The Tigers close out the tournament with yet another Lone Star State matchup with Texas Tech at 9 a.m. Saturday.
