Tiger softball takes game one of NCAA Super Regional
The Missouri Tigers softball team took the first game of the NCAA Super Regional today, defeating Oregon 1-0.
Sophomore pitcher Kristin Nottelmann continued to excel for the Tigers, who moved within one victory of advancing to the Women’s College World Series. Nottelmann threw her third straight complete game, shutting out the potent Oregon lineup. The sophomore improved her record to 23-7 on the year.
Oregon got its first scoring chance in the second inning, when two singles and an error loaded the bases with only one out, but the Tigers were able to get out of the inning with a line out and a fielder’s choice.
The Ducks got another chance in the fifth inning, advancing runners to second and third with no outs. However, Nottelmann settled down to get out of the jam unscathed.
The Tigers scored the only run of the game in the fifth inning. After two quick outs, junior outfielder Lisa Simmons singled and advanced on a wild pitch. Senior second baseman Gina Schneider followed with a slow roller to third, leading to an errant throw which allowed Simmons to score.
Missouri will play game two of the NCAA Super Regional tomorrow at noon Sunday. Game three, if necessary, will begin 30 minutes after the conclusion of game two. The game will be televised on ESPN.
