Tigers' top receiver sidelined for up to four weeks

Missouri football was dealt a tough blow Wednesday as the team’s leading receiver, Jerrell Jackson, broke a bone in his left wrist and is expected to miss around four weeks.

The injury occurred after Jackson became entangled with safety Jasper Simmons an hour into practice.

The 6'1" junior caught 37 passes for 458 yards last season, behind only seniors Danario Alexander and Jared Perry. The Tigers now find themselves very short on experienced receivers with the start of the season only about three weeks away.

Sophomore receiver T.J. Moe is the most likely candidate to take Jackson’s slot receiver spot and has been impressive early in the Tigers' training camp. Moe has little college experience, with only two catches his freshman year.

The injury also opens the door for true freshmen receivers Jimmie Hunt, Bud Sasser and Marcus Lucas to earn playing time.

The Tigers open up the season against Illinois in St. Louis on Sept. 4.
