Two Tiger volleyball players earn preseason honors

Tags:

The Missouri volleyball team had two of its players recognized Thursday, earning preseason Big 12 honors. Senior outside hitter Paola Ampudia was chosen as a member of the preseason All-Big 12 team, and incoming freshman setter Molly Kreklow was voted Big 12 Preseason Freshman of the Year.

Ampudia led the Tigers to an 18-14 record last season, the most wins by Missouri since 2005. Her 281 kills in the final 16 games of the season were the most recorded out of any other player in the conference, earning her the Big 12 Newcomer of the Year award.

This will be the first honor Kreklow has received at the collegiate level, although the freshman is no stranger to accolades. The young setter has earned a spot on the AAU All-American team twice while leading the 2010 USA Volleyball Junior National Team to the NORCECA Continental Championship.

Both players are expected to be huge contributors to the Tiger offense this season. The women will look to live up to their preseason expectations in their first match of the season Aug. 27 at the Tiger Invitational.
