Washington permanently suspended from team

Senior tailback Derrick Washington has been permanently suspended from the Missouri Tigers football team, Athletics Department spokesman Chad Moller said.

"Derrick Washington has been permanently suspended from the University of Missouri football program," Moller said in a news release Tuesday. "Nothing about this decision will affect his existing athletic scholarship as long as he remains enrolled at Mizzou."

Washington was charged with felony sexual assault Tuesday. The assault allegedly took place on June 19 at Campus View Apartments.

Sophomore Kendial Lawrence and redshirt junior De'Vion Moore will take over tailback duties in Washington's absence.

The coach should be commended for allowing Washington to keep his scholarship. Indeed, it would not have been wrong to just show W the door. My prediction is that W will add one more mistake to the tally by throwing the scholarship away along with his football game. Does that mean I think he may be guilty of the accusations? Yes based on the fact that Pinkel must have seen a real problem to permanently suspend him. Looks like Pinkel doesn't believe in sending up another recruit to the NFL - National Felon League.
