After winning its first seven games of the season, the Missouri volleyball team eventually slowed down at its tournament this weekend in Bowling Green, Kentucky. The ladies picked up their first two losses of the season at the tournament, but still hold a strong overall record at 8-2. Three tournaments into the season, Missouri is sitting at fourth place in the Big 12 Conference, behind Nebraska, Iowa State and Kansas.

Missouri started off Saturday’s play with a sweep over Central Arkansas. The Tigers were lead by senior outside hitter Paola Ampudia and freshman setter Molly Kreklow, who both recorded double-doubles in the match. Ampudia tallied 10 kills with 11 digs, while Kreklow finished with 31 kills to go with 11 digs.

In the final match of the tournament, Missouri took on a strong Virginia Tech team. The Tigers had trouble hitting all night, recording a season-low .155 in the match. After losing the first set, Missouri bounced back and evened the score in the second set. However, the Tigers were unable to carry their momentum into the third and fourth sets, losing 25-12 and 25-22 respectively and ending the tournament with their second loss of the season.

The Tigers will look to rebound from their last match on Wednesday, when they take on the Raiders of Texas Tech in their Big 12 opener.
