Aldon Smith out with broken fibula

Missouri football defensive end Aldon Smith is out indefinitely with a broken fibula, coach Gary Pinkel announced in a teleconference Monday.

The All-Big 12 sophomore was off to a fast start this season, accumulating 15 tackles and three sacks over Missouri’s first three games. While this obviously deals a major blow to the defense, Pinkel noted that the injury was non-weight-bearing, and that Smith should be able to return within the next few weeks.

The Tigers are fortunate to have depth at the position, with sophomore Brad Madison and freshman Michael Sam already making an impact this season. The two players will be called on to fill the shoes of the dominant Smith.

Missouri will try to remain unbeaten as Miami of Ohio comes into town Saturday.
