MU offense explodes against Oklahoma

After scoring just three goals in their first five Big 12 games, Missouri’s offense exploded Sunday afternoon for a 5-2 victory over Oklahoma in Norman.

The win improved MU’s record to 11-6 overall and 2-4 in Big 12 Conference play, while the loss dropped the Sooners to 6-10 and 1-4.

Freshman forward Taylor Grant got the scoring underway in the 29th minute, assisted by fellow freshman Kaysie Clark. The goal was her fourth of the season.

In the 31st minute, Clark tallied her second goal of the year after letting a shot loose from the top of the box that found the back of the net.

Oklahoma got on the board late in the first half to make things more interesting heading into the break.

Both sides exchanged goals early in the second half, as MU sophomore midfielder Dominique Richardson scored her fifth goal of the year just before Oklahoma would get on the board again in the 59th minute.

The Sooners would not be in the game for long, however. After 12 minutes of back-and-forth action, the Tigers found the insurance goal they were looking for.

Senior forward Kendra Collins notched her second goal of the season to extend the Tigers' lead to 4-2, and sophomore forward Danielle Nottingham put the game away in the 86th minute with a goal of her own.

Sunday was the last regular season road game for the Tigers, who have had their fair share of ups and downs this year.

After an 8-2 start, MU has only won three of its last seven. Two games remain on the regular season schedule, as the Tigers will play host to Kansas and Iowa State over the next two weekends.
