Volleyball falls to Oklahoma after late rally, drops to 1-3 in Big 12 play
The Missouri Tigers volleyball team continued to struggled in conference play in Norman on Wednesday night, suffering a close loss to No. 22 Oklahoma.
After falling behind two sets early in the match, the Tigers (14-6, 1-3 Big 12) launched a strong offensive streak in the third and fourth sets to avoid the sweep. But the Tigers were defeated in the fifth set for the second match in a row, as they lost to Kansas State in the fifth last Wednesday.
Sophomore setter Molly Kreklow was a bright spot in the loss, sporting 42 assists and seven kills. She was just three kills away from the team’s first triple-double of the season. This was her third consecutive match to pull out a double-double performance.
Defensively, senior libero Priscilla Armendariz was perfect on serve receive while tallying 18 digs. Despite the loss, the Tigers were aced just twice over the five sets.
Errors in the first two sets ultimately brought down the Tigers. The back row had trouble stopping the Sooners' .500 hitting. The Tigers had a combined 20 errors while Oklahoma had just six heading into intermission.
The Tigers came out of the break in full force, though. The offensive caused the Sooners to make plenty of errors in the third set, and the Tigers kept the momentum through the fourth to knot the match at two a piece.
The Tigers fell behind early in the fifth set, however, and never recovered.
Missouri will travel to Baylor on Saturday for yet another road conference match up. The start time has yet to be announced.
