Henning wins second Big 12 Player of the Week award

Missouri sophomore hitter Lisa Henning was named Big 12 Player of the Week on Monday, four weeks after she last won the same honor.

The announcement comes after Henning powered her team last week in conference wins over Kansas and Baylor. She averaged 5.75 kills per set on .380 hitting over the two games. On the season, she leads the Big 12 in kills per set with 4.80 and in points per set with 5.36.

Against Baylor, she recorded her sixth career double-double with 24 kills and 10 digs.

While Henning has been the Tigers’ most dangerous offensive threat, she has also made an impact defensively. On a team laden with seven freshmen, Henning said since the beginning of the season she felt she needed to make contributions in any way. In coach Wayne Kreklow’s rotation, Henning has made an impact playing on the back line.

“I don’t really go into a game thinking that I want to get a million kills or try an beat my record,” she said after her team’s 20th season win over Baylor on Saturday. “I just go out and do what I can do to make the team successful.”
