Top quarterback recruit Mauk commits to Missouri for 2012

Tags:

A little over a week after Tyler Gabbert announced his transfer to the University of Louisville, the Missouri Tigers seemingly have found their future at the quarterback position. Maty Mauk, a high-profile quarterback from Kenton, Ohio, announced on Thursday he has verbally committed to the Tigers for 2012, according to Dave Matter of the Columbia Tribune.

Mauk is rated as the No. 19 pro-style quarterback for 2012 by Rivals.com. The 6-foot-2, 185 pound Kenton High School senior has thrown for about 14,000 yards, rushed for 2,000 yards and totaled 186 touchdowns in his first three seasons as starting quarterback. Mauk has played in a shotgun spread offense at Kenton, which probably made Missouri appealing.

Mauk's commitment to Missouri is the 12th verbal commitment for next year's recruiting class. He chose the Tigers over Michigan, Cincinnati, Notre Dame and Illinois. Though MU was considered a finalist for top-rated quarterback Gunner Kiel, Mauk's announcement probably takes them out of the running.
