Iowa State retains rights to block Texas A&M move
Iowa State has decided to retain its legal rights after Texas A&M's acceptance into the Southeastern Conference earlier today, the De Moines Register has reported.
According to the Register, Iowa State has joined Baylor in not waiving its rights to sue A&M or the Southeastern Conference after the Texas school's departure from the Big 12. But while reports say Baylor has expressed interest in filing a lawsuit challenging the legality of A&M's move, an Iowa State spokesman said the school has not been asked to waive its rights by any other Big 12 member.
Texas A&M's departure to the Big 12 was made complete last night when SEC presidents voted to accept the school as long as there were no contractual hindrances in the way. Though the Big 12 gave its consent for the move, University of Florida president and SEC chairman Dr. Bernie Machen said "at least one" Big 12 school has withdrawn its consent and planned legal action.
It seems as if Iowa State has joined Baylor in an attempt to block A&M's move. If the Big 12 dissolves, Iowa State risks landing in a conference without an automatic BCS bid.
