Tigers drop fifth straight with loss at Texas A&M

The losing streak of the Missouri women’s basketball team extended to five Wednesday in College Station, Texas, as the Tigers lost 78-52 to No. 14 Texas A&M.

After starting out the season with an impressive 10-1 record, the Tigers have yet to seize a win against Big 12 Conference teams, losing in consecutive order to Baylor, Texas Tech, Kansas State, Kansas and now Texas A&M.

In the starting minutes it appeared Wednesday would be different, with the Tigers leading the first eight minutes until a free throw from Aggie Kelsey Assarian tied the game at 14.

By halftime, the Tigers were only trailing by seven, shooting 54.5 percent and holding the Aggies to 33.3 percent behind the arc.

But the second half would prove to be another story, as Texas A&M was able to shut down the Tigers offensively, allowing only 27.3 percent shooting. The Aggies also effectively pulled away by hosting their largest lead of 27 in the final minute of play.

The Tigers’ senior stat leaders, forwards Christine Flores and BreAnna Brock, both contributed yet again. Brock was one rebound away from a double-double (12 points, nine rebounds) and Flores led the team with 13 points and five blocks. Those blocks give her 57 for the season, breaking her personal record of 56 from last season and making her now No. 5 on Missouri’s single-season block list.

The Tigers will now return Saturday to Columbia to host Texas Tech.
