Grinch rejoins MU football staff as safeties coach
Former Missouri football graduate assistant and recent Wyoming assistant coach Alex Grinch has rejoined the Tigers as safeties coach, MU coach Gary Pinkel announced Monday.
Grinch served as a graduate assistant for the Tigers from 2002 to 2004 following a decorated playing career as an All-American safety at Mount Union College.
Following his time with the Tigers, Grinch worked with cornerbacks, the secondary and recruiting at New Hampshire from 2005 to 2008. He then followed former Missouri assistant coach Dave Christensen when Christensen accepted the head role at Wyoming and named Grinch secondary coach.
“I’m really excited to have the opportunity to come back to Mizzou,” Grinch said. “I had a chance to be part of the early years here with coach Pinkel and I knew back then that this program would take off. To have a chance to be here and be part of the move to the SEC makes this a really exciting time."
Pinkel reiterated the excitement.
“Alex will be an outstanding addition to our staff,” Pinkel said. “He brings a lot to the table that our group will benefit from. He’s worked hard to become a very successful teacher of the game, and he’s someone who will be a great salesman of our program to recruits and families. We’re excited that he chose to come back to Mizzou, and we’re happy to have him with us."
