Approaching its first year in the Southeastern Conference, Missouri’s backcourt has already made a name for itself in the league.
Junior guard Phil Pressey was the preseason choice for SEC Player of the Year by the league’s media in a poll released Monday. He was also a conference first-team selection.
Pressey finished his 2011-12 campaign averaging 10.3 points and 6.3 assists per game.
Senior guard Michael Dixon was named a member of the preseason conference second-team. Dixon, expected to start in coach Frank Haith’s second year in Columbia, was the Associated Press Sixth Man of the Year, coming off the bench to average 13.5 points a game.
As a whole, the Tigers were picked to finish third in the SEC in a vote that included the league’s coaches and members of the national media. Reigning national champion Kentucky was tabbed to win the conference with Florida predicted to finish second. MU received one first-place vote.
