Missouri senior guard Marucs Denmon and sophomore point guard Phil Pressey were named to the Naismith Player of the Year Midseason 30 Watch List, the Atlanta Tipoff Club announced Wednesday. Missouri joins Kentucky, North Carolina and Syracuse in having two representatives on the list.
Denmon, who is also on the prestigious midseason lists for the Oscar Robertson and Wooden awards, has commanded the Tigers this season offensively. He leads the Tigers with 18.2 points and ranks second on the team with 5.1 rebounds a game. He is currently the school’s ninth all-time leading scorer.
Pressey is one of 20 point guards in the nation up for the Bob Cousey Award, as announced early January. Along with nearly 10 points a game, he currently is atop the Big 12 Conference in assists (6.2) and steals (2.1). With 179 dishes on the campaign, he needs just one more to become the program’s single-season record holder.
AT&T will present the Naismith Trophy at the NCAA Tournament Final Four the weekend of March 30 in New Orleans.
