In a video uploaded to YouTube late Monday night, Missouri senior offensive lineman Jack Meiners was shown bench-pressing 505 pounds, which, proclaimed by strength and conditioning coaches in the video, is a new school record. The school’s athletics department does not provide official documentation of lifting records.
“Congrats to OL Jack Meiners aka "Big Jack" for a new school record with a 505 pound bench today!” Junior teammate wide receiver Marcus Lucas wrote on his Twitter account Monday morning.
The 6-foot-6, 310-pound Meiners was listed as the Tigers’ starting right guard on the spring depth chart and is expected to stay atop the chart come fall. He has 38 games of experience in his career, including seven starts at guard in 2011.
Apparently, this wasn’t the first time Meiners made a mark in the Missouri weight room. In a video posted by PowerMizzou.com in 2010, he was seen squatting his way to, according to coaches in the video, the school record.
“That’s a buff man right there! That’s a strong man right there!” Lucas could be seen saying in the video following Meiners bench press. “That’s SEC. That’s (a) new school record. That’s big.”
