Last season, the Missouri went 2-16 in conference play, finishing last in the Big 12. Although the conference has changed, the results remain similar for the Tigers, who lost their first Southeastern Conference game 77-46 to No. 10 Georgia Thursday night in Athens.
Missouri (11-4, 0-1) appeared to be up to the task in the early going. Junior forward Bri Kulas scored the first eight points for Missouri, and the Tigers trailed the Bulldogs by just three in the first five minutes. Georgia (13-1, 1-0) then went on a 34-15 run to end the half, leading 45-23 after 20 minutes.
Buckets from senior center Liz Smith and Kulas gave Missouri the first seven points of the second half, but the quick start never amounted to any sort of comeback.
Kulas led the Tigers with 14 points and seven rebounds. Sophomore guard Morgan Eye finished with 13 points.
The loss is Missouri’s second straight after 11 of its first 13 games. Mizzou Arena will host the program’s first SEC conference home game against Auburn on Sunday, January 6.
Auburn (12-2, 1-0) slipped by Arkansas Thursday night, winning 50-47.
