Missouri made its presence felt in its’ first week in the Southeastern Conference. Senior Nicole Hudson won SEC Player of the Week and senior Chelsea Thomas won SEC Pitcher of the week as Missouri swept the UC Santa Barbara Gaucho Classic.
Hudson brought her bat to Southern California, going 7-for-12 on the weekend, including a team-leading five home runs. She made her presence felt in the circle as well, pitching a five-inning complete game against Fresno State.
Thomas pitched two complete games in the Classic, a 4-0 win over Fresno State on Friday and a 12-1 win over UCSB on Sunday. The two-time All-American struck out 19 batters in 14 innings pitched, surrendering five hits and zero earned runs.
The Tigers are spending the week in California before continuing competition on Thursday in Palm Springs with games against Maryland and San Diego State, followed by a Friday meeting with Florida.
