Senior quarterback James Franklin stole the show.
Hampered by injuries in 2012, Franklin returned with a jolt to start the new season. He went 16-for-25 with 212 yards and even led the team in rushing with 77 yards as Missouri (2-0) eked a 38-23 victory over Toledo (0-2) Saturday.
Franklin threw for one touchdown and his bruising runs set up two more. Running back Henry Josey added two touchdowns on 1-yard goal line rushes. L’Damian Washington paced the receivers with 78 yards.
When the offense struggled against Toledo (the Rockets gained three more yards than Missouri), the defense more than made up. Under the 95 degree weather, with on-field temperatures measuring more than 140 degrees, the cornerbacks made three interceptions, increasing the team total to six on the season.
