The No. 17 Missouri softball team (12-3) rounded out the weekend with a 7-0 rout of Ohio State (6-9), going 5-0 at the Citrus Classic in Kissimmee, Fla.
Senior outfielder Mackenzie Sykes powered the Tigers' batting, going 2-for-4 with two runs, four RBIs and a home run. Sophomore shortstop Sami Fagan also notched a run and two RBIs. As a team, Missouri hit .333 compared to the Buckeyes’ .208.
Freshman Tori Finucane captured her fifth win of the season, throwing two strikeouts and giving up five hits on 91 pitches. The Tiger defense had no errors while allowing no extra-base hits.
Sykes started off the scoring with a three-run homer at the top of the third inning. Fagan rang in the next two runs after a blast to centerfield with the bases loaded to make it 5-0. In the fifth inning, junior infielder Corrin Genovese took advantage of loaded bases yet again with an RBI single. The game ended just as it started, with an RBI from Sykes to seal the win at 7-0 for Missouri.
The Tigers begin conference play on Friday with a visit to Texas A&M.
