Rep. Chris Kelly, D-Columbia, talks about his return to the Missouri House of Representatives and higher education funding. This is the first time Kelly has served in the House since 1994. During his 24th house district race last year, he emphasized the importance of providing for higher education. Since his term began, Kelly has supported higher education through his recently proposed $700 million bond fund, he said. The fund would provide money for building projects formerly funded by the Missouri Higher Education Loan Authority, such as the Ellis Fischel Cancer Center and the renovation of Lafferre Hall. Kelly also co-sponsored House Bill 692, which allows for a voting student member of the UM system Board of Curators. The bill is awaiting referral to the House.
