Earlier this summer, Patrick Dougherty sold his car and embarked on a two-and-a-half month trip through the states, living out of his backpack and staying with people he met through the CouchSurfing.com network. In Chicago, Daugherty lived with a surgeon for a month and in Portland he stayed with two hosts, all of with whom he grew close to during his stay.

After couch surfing while in Europe over the summer, MU senior Lauren Kilberg decided to experience couch surfing from the other end and become a host. Since returning to the states, Lauren has hosted one couch surfer and has two more people who plan to stay with her.

Four couch surfers have spent the night on the futon on which Kat Erdel sits with her dog, Fiona. On a recent trip to the Northwest, Kat and her friend couch surfed, staying with hosts and creating relationships in Portland, Ore.; Seattle; and Boise, Idaho.

Cursive frontman Tim Kasher and bassist Matt Maginn play a sold-out show at Mojo's on Saturday night. The band played many new songs that will be on their upcoming sixth album, to be recorded in May.

Columbia residents Tom Lambert and Paul Litton eat sandwiches at Which Wich? during the restaurant’s grand opening Monday. The franchise started in Dallas, and according to the local owners, it had a successful opening for its first location in Missouri.

Jazz trumpeter Terell Stafford listens as fellow musician Tim Warfield improvises on the tenor saxophone during a packed matinee performance by the Terell Stafford Quintet at Murry’s Restaurant Sunday. The quintet’s two 'Sundays at Murry’s' performances began Stafford’s three-day residency in Columbia, presented by the 'We Always Swing' Jazz Series.

Jazz trumpeter Terell Stafford offers stylistic suggestions to the MU Concert Jazz Band after the band performed John Clayton’s ‘I Be Serious ‘Bout Dem Blues’ at rehearsal on Monday. The clinic was part of the educational aspect of Stafford’s residency, which will also include programs at elementary schools and a lecture-demonstration at the Columbia Public Library.
