Jeff Burlison of Columbia pedals through downtown traffic Saturday afternoon on Ninth Street. Burlison noted cars have been giving him a wide berth since the passage of Columbia's bicyclist harassment ordinance, which punishes those who bother bicyclists with jail time.

Barber and shop owner Brad Holt trims the beard of a customer at the Tiger Barber Shop at Ninth Street on Friday morning. Businesses in downtown Columbia, such as Tiger Barber Shop, were not negatively affected by the absence of students during the summer.

Columbia firefighters wheel graduate student Yirui Wei into an ambulance for transport to University Hospital Thursday night at Tara Apartments. Firefighters rescued Wei from the bottom of a pool after she had been there for 5 minutes.
