Missouri senior quarterback Corby Jones took one more step toward a possible career in the National Football League on Sunday in the Hooters Hula Bowl in Hawaii.
Jones, the starting quarterback for the North team, completed three of four passes for 58 yards and one touchdown, which came on the opening drive, in the 34-14 South victory.
Devin West was unable to show his talents to the NFL scouts on Saturday in the 50th Annual Senior Bowl in Mobile, Ala. He was sidelined due to bone chips in both ankles that had bothered him most of the season.
MU track squad posts second-place finish
Missouri finished in second place after a great weekend of indoor track in the MU/KU/KSU Triangular on Saturday in Manhattan, Kan.
Eight Tigers won their respective events, including junior All-American Derrick Peterson, who broke the school record with the 800 meters in 1:52.44.
Junior Carlos Posey, a defensive back for MU football in the fall, won the 55-meter dash in his first race of the indoor season. Despite not practicing with the team, Posey finished with a time of 6.26 and qualified for the NCAA Indoor Championships later this year.
MU wrestlers take two in home meet
In the first home dual meet of the season, the Tigers beat up on Lindenwood 46-10 in the first match of the dual meet and then scratched and clawed from behind to beat Missouri Valley 25-15 in the nightcap.
Junior Jeff Urban won his fifth consecutive dual match dating back to Dec. 12 against Indiana. He is now 16-7 on the season. Senior Matt Webster lifted his record to 15-5.
Freshman heavyweight Chad Hertzog pinned both of his challengers in less than two minutes, improving his record to 8-8.
A key win for MU was junior Jake Lipinski's defeat of Missouri Valley's Chad Hopkins, who was ranked fifth in the NAIA in the 125-pound weight class.
Gymnastics team suffers heartbreaking loss
Although the Tigers had their best team vault score of the season and its second-best team score on the uneven bars, Missouri narrowly fell to the Iowa State Cyclones 191.93 to 191.68 Friday at the Hearnes Center.
The Cyclones posted team bests for the season on the vault and the floor exercise. Despite two falls on the balance beam in the last rotation, Iowa State was able to escape Columbia with a victory.
The 24th-ranked Tigers fell to 3-4 for the season, while the 16th-ranked Cyclones improved to 3-1.
