Students looking for something to do Saturday night will find a night of free ethnic food, dancing and a fashion show in Stotler Lounge at Memorial Union.
The South Asian Students Association will sponsor a free dinner and performance by Chai Town, an a cappella group from the University of Illinois, at 9 p.m. Saturday.
Chai Town was founded two years ago and performs Hindi/English songs. They have performed on college campuses across the nation, including the University of Virginia and the University of Michigan.
Runjhun Misra, president of the South Asian Students Association, said the event is free to attendees, as long as they request a ticket. Students can get tickets by contacting Misra, she said.
Students need tickets for the event so organizers can estimate how much food to order from India House, which is providing the food, she said.
The night's events will include a 45-minute performance by Chai Town, and dance performances and a fashion show by members of the South Asian Students Association, Misra said.
"The event is to incorporate cultural unity," she said. "It's a way to bring the campus together."
The South Asian Students Association sponsors a variety of events every year. This is the final event of the semester, and the organization will sponsor a date auction and Valentine's Day formal next semester, Misra said.
Misra said this is the first time the organization has sponsored this event.
"We would encourage everyone to attend," she said. "It will be an enriching experience."
