The Associated Students of the University of Missouri held their eighth annual Breakfast with the Chancellor Thursday morning, giving many student organizations the chance to update their progress with MU's top official.
Representatives from many organizations attended the breakfast and the head executive member of each group gave a short speech.
Missouri Students Association President Brian Laoruangroch began the speeches by praising Chancellor Brady Deaton.
"Because of Dr. Deaton' s openness to students' voice ... I knew he would do a good job," Laoruangroch said. "He has already met with many students as chancellor in a short time."
Laoruangroch spoke on the addition of emergency lights and weekly MSA updates appearing on campus.
He said MSA is working toward creating more aid for student registration and aid in helping students find off-campus housing.
"I am looking forward to Dr. Deaton helping us succeed," Laoruangroch said.
Graduate Professional Council President Nathan Brummel focused his update on graduate student housing.
"We're working in the early stages to find graduate student housing," Brummel said.
He said he also would like to see more interaction between graduate students and undergraduate students on campus.
Residence Hall Association President Patrick Buckalew also showed concern for housing issues and said he hopes Deaton would keep the housing situation on campus a top priority.
Several organizations placed importance on upcoming service projects, including a blood drive for sickle-cell anemia.
"We strive to come together in scholarship and leadership," National Pan-Hellenic Council President Tanisha Montgomery said.
NPHC also is planning to rewrite its constitution and organize an all-Greek study hall.
Pan-Hellenic Council President Amy Cross said Greek organizations would begin service projects on and off campus.
It's project, "House that Greeks Built," plans to work to raise $40,000 for the building of a charity house.
The Pan-Hellenic Council has raised $3,000.
ASUM Board of Directors Chairman Shawn Borich said he was pleased with the turnout and said this was a good opportunity to update the chancellor.
"I'm looking forward to working with Chancellor Deaton," Borich said.
After the speeches, Deaton closed with brief comments.
"Our students have all contributed so significantly to our role as a university," Deaton said.
Deaton said the student leadership at MU was full of "incredible power" and said he was honored to be with the students and hear the updates.
"I am very eager to explore those issues with you," Deaton said. "I love to hear what you're doing and what every organization is doing. It's terribly exciting."
