MSA Senate to discuss enrichment hour proposal

The Missouri Students Association Senate likely will discuss two resolutions on Wednesday night.
MSA President Brian Laoruangroch will present a resolution at the meeting asking for an "enrichment hour" to be included in class schedules.
"The bill essentially asks for a common time, preferably between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m., when classes aren't scheduled," Laoruangroch said.
Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs Cathy Scroggs suggested the idea for a common hour in fall semester, Laoruangroch said.
The proposed enrichment hour would give students time to hold an organizational meeting, attend speakers or concerts, visit with teachers and have extra time to meet friends for lunch, among other activities, Laoruangroch said.
Laoruangroch said he would like student input on this resolution as well as input on anything else students would like MSA to do.
Student Fee Review Committee Chairman Matthew Sokoloff will present a resolution that would require any fee increases exceeding 2 percent to go on a student referendum.
Sokoloff said the resolution is important because students should have a voice in any extra costs they have to pay.
"Currently, if MSA or (the Graduate Professional Council) makes a recommendation to raise fees by more than 2 percent, we're required to go to a resolution," he said. "I feel it's only fair to require the same of the administration. It's important for students to have a voice in policies made by the university."
Sokoloff and Laoruangroch said they are confident their resolutions will pass.
"I've yet to come up with a reason why someone wouldn't want to support this," Sokoloff said. "It's a great opportunity to let students voice their opinion. I don't know why people would be against letting students have a voice."
Laoruangroch said he encourages students to attend the Senate meeting on Wednesday night at 6 p.m. or to use the megaphone system on MSA's Web site to share their concerns about the resolutions.
