The director of the MSA Department of Student Communications said he's ready to launch an intense advertising campaign for the Missouri Students Association.

The department has been placing half-page advertisements in campus newspapers updating the student body on Senate legislation and MSA-sponsored activities, director Nick Trusty said.

"We're not just looking to do a bunch of news ads," he said. "We're looking at more abstract ideas."

Trusty said one of his main goals this semester is to increase the number of ads while spending effectively. He had $4,000 shaved from his budget that was previously for travel expenses.

"We're saving students money so it can go where it's needed," he said. "We budgeted so money is used effectively and economically."

One of Trusty's ideas is to send a team of senators and members of DSC to speak to classrooms about what MSA is doing, he said.

"We're just starting this plan," he said. "I don't think there will be many problems implementing it. Many professors seem comfortable with us going in for a few minutes before class to update students."

Trusty said he also is looking into putting advertisements on trays in dining halls.

"It would give students something to look at while they eat and also educate them on what their representatives are doing for them," he said.

Trusty is looking to increase communication with the student body by offering students rides to class in the MSA-owned golf cart.

"Last week (MSA President) Brian Laoruangroch and I drove the golf cart around to ask students what they want and to get their opinions," he said. "It was excellent. Students were happy to see us doing that. Hopefully when the weather is nicer, we'll be able to do that more often."
