Twenty thousand people will receive $2,000 each as a result of a $40 million discrimination class action suit against Abercrombie and Fitch.

In addition, Abercrombie had to modify its hiring practices to "ensure that African Americans, Asian Americans, Latinos and women are considered for recruitment, hire, job assignment and managerial promotions," according to the settlement.

The time period for filing a claim was between Feb. 24, 1999 and Nov. 16, 2004.

Because of the lawsuit, Abercrombie, which includes Abercrombie and Fitch, abercrombie kids and Hollister, can no longer use some past recruiting strategies.

"They can no longer go to fraternities for recruiting purposes, because they have a high percentage of whites and obviously males," said Minah Park, a staff attorney at the Asian American Pacific Legal Center in Los Angeles.
