There's a new tiger in town.

Mac OS X 10.4, or "Tiger," Apple's newest operating system, is set to be released April 29.

TigerTech officials said the software would be available to MU students for $69. Students can pre-order the software at TigerTech or online at www.mutigertech.com. Copies can be picked up outside the store from 6 to 7 p.m. on the release date.

Thanks to a licensing agreement between MU and Apple, however, students can obtain the software at a much cheaper price — $15. The savings result in a free license for the software.

Copies of the discounted CD will be available at the Information Access and Technology Services' Outpost, 615 Locust St.

Should students purchase the less-expensive copy, the licensing agreement would only last while they leave with MU. Once they are unaffiliated, the software continues to function properly, but students cannot access any upgrades that might be available.

Apple's Web site, www.apple.com, says Tiger has more than 200 new features, including "Spotlight" and "Dashboard" as well as updated versions of the Web browser Safari and Apple's chat program, iChat.
