Letter to the Editor:
There are so many things at MU to talk about
Published Jan. 20, 2006
There are just fewer than 300 words that can fit in this space. Columnists have 600, guest columnists have 450 and each of the editorials on the left is about 275. It's not an insignificant amount of space. Yet, it's often the hardest space to fill in the paper.
The letter to the editor space is for the 20,000-some-odd students on this campus. I see you reading the paper, and I assume a lot of you have cogent thoughts in your head while doing so. Write them down! Put the pen to the paper. Exercise your hand a bit (no, not like that). Take 15 minutes and give us your thoughts on what we're talking about.
Last issue, we discussed at length, probably at too much length, a bill that would ban cold beer sales in Missouri. I'm going to guess that either you or someone you know likes cold beer. Bam, easy letter idea. What about the construction on the Quad? Write me 150 words on the subject and see your name in print.
Statistically, about half of you voted for John Kerry in 2004. See the columnist in the upper left corner of the next page? Let's hear what you think. The Dubya and Blunt fans out there might have some problems with what the person in the same spot on Tuesdays has to say. Letters, people. At the very least, it will give you karma points.
Today we talk about an $11 million settlement the university just finalized because it decided to begin charging tuition sometime in the early 20th century. Think about that for a second. Then write about it and e-mail it to me at forum@themaneater.com or using the form on our Web site. I can't wait to hear from you.
