A Columbia man got more than he expected Sunday night when the two women he visited in a Campus Inn Hotel room turned out to be part of what police said were a trio of robbers.

According to a Columbia police news release, the 40-year-old man was eating dinner at La Tolteca restaurant on Stadium Boulevard around 11 p.m. when he met two women who invited him back to their room at Campus Inn.

Katie Hernandez, a La Tolteca manager who worked Sunday night, said she saw police cars at the hotel after the restaurant closed but did not know the women and the man had eaten at the restaurant.

"I didn't even know it happened until this morning," she said.

The man went home to change his clothes, and then he met the women in their hotel room.

While the man was lying on the bed, another man entered the room and threatened him with a gun, the release stated.

According to the release, the gunman made the victim leave the room by climbing out a first-floor window.

The man told officers the gunman made him leave his pants, other clothes and wallet in the room but threw the man's keys out the window.

The release stated the wallet contained cash and credit cards.

The man was not injured and contacted police after locating a pay phone.

A representative at Campus Inn declined to comment.
