Campus trees damaged on Friday night

Amid the Homecoming revelry, six trees were broken Friday night at various locations around campus.
According to Campus Facilities spokesman Phil Shocklee, the trees were discovered by Landscape Services crews and reported to the MU Police Department on Saturday morning.
"I know MUPD is investigating and working the case," Shocklee said.
The crews found the trees while cleaning up campus after the Homecoming parade.
MU police Capt. Brian Weimer said he didn't know the full extent of the damage. He said he only knew about two of the vandalized trees.
"The only reports that I have are of trees near Sixth Street and near Eighth Street," he said.
Weimer said reports about the other trees might not have made it through the department to him yet, so he only knew about two of the six trees reported to MU police by Campus Facilities.
At press time, neither agency knew the value, types of tree or the exact locations of the damaged trees.
"I do not currently have the exact locations of the trees or an estimated amount of the damages," Shocklee said.
MU police couldn't estimate the damage either.
This is not the first time trees have been damaged at MU. Three juniper trees and a pear plant were damaged last May.
In September, a Weeping European beech tree was broken in half. The tree was valued at $1,500.
When asked if the crimes were related, Weimer said his department hadn't found any connections between the crimes.
