Some have watched an elevator get stuck on TV, but few have had to experience it themselves.

Twelve students were trapped in a Laws Hall elevator on Tuesday night.

A sign posted outside the elevator stated there should be no more than eight students in an elevator, but a sign inside the elevator stated the maximum capacity is 12 people.

Nobody was seriously injured, but one student felt faint and had to be fanned down and comforted by her friends, freshman Tom Koines said. Koines was also trapped in the elevator.

Koines said that the emergency button didn't work in the elevator and that they were forced to call the police.

After about an hour, a representative from the elevator company raised the elevator to the third floor where the trapped students were able to escape.

The 12 students were headed to play capture the flag and took the elevator.

After reaching about halfway between the second and third floors, the elevator stopped, trapping the group.

Koines said the group supplemented traditional elevator music with a "cell phone ring tone dance party."
