In today's music age, artists come and go as quickly as celebrity marriages, but one artist who has stayed in business for more than a decade has recently rolled out the blue carpet in his new album, Tha Blue Carpet Treatment. Snoop Dogg, who has faced the law for charges including drug possession and murder over the years, has definitely beaten the odds and created yet another smooth, chill album that flows, fo-shizzle.

Although Snoop's way of living with sex, drugs and alcohol is still a prominent part of the album, there are a few other songs that have subtle messages dealing with more serious issues, including the poverty and gang involvement that still grip our nation today.

In other songs, he even seems to drop his gangsta guard and talk about a time when a girl broke someone's heart and when his friends criticize him for having safe sex. True, many of the songs seem to be evidence that he is still a sex fiend, but little things here and there seem to show otherwise.

The most powerful songs in the entire album are the last two, "Imagine" and "Conversations." In "Imagine," he tells Dr. Dre, who he has rapped with throughout his career, that "This record is so motherfuckin' gangsta man/ And I think it's time for me and you to just/ Tone it down a bit." In that song, they talk about many hard times that people face, such as poverty, violence and trying to see through the fame and glory that pollute the media today. The two also imagine what life would be like if it had turned a different corner for some famous rappers like Biggie and Tupac. They also tug at the listener's heartstrings and help people to see the horror that mothers go through when their children are killed.

In the final song of the album, Snoop and Stevie Wonder perform a duet, in which The Doggfather professes his faith in Christianity and says the best way to deal with problems is simply to pray.

Snoop Dogg has stayed true to his style with that smooth drawl of his and has seemed to refine his work by dipping into some more morally mature themes.
