An 18-year-old MU student was injured Monday morning outside Brady Commons, MU Police Department Capt. Brian Weimer said.
The injury occurred at approximately 9:54 a.m., after the student slipped on ice outside near the back of the building. The injuries were unknown, but the student was transported to University Hospital, Weimer said. The current condition of the student is also unknown.
MU police, Residential Life, Campus Dining Services, the Athletic department, Parking and Transportation and other departments had already met and reviewed the emergency action plan to follow in order to have a systematic way to set priorities and clear ice, Campus Facilities spokesman Phil Shocklee said.
MU spokesman Christian Basi said university officials are concerned the cold weather might continue to hamper the effectiveness of the chemicals that are used to melt the ice on the streets and sidewalks. There are icy areas all over campus, he said, so people are encouraged to be extremely cautious while walking or driving.
