Stefhon Hannah named Big 12 Rookie of the Week for second straight week
Junior guard Stefhon Hannah accumulated 31 points, nine steals and 11 assists against Arkansas and Evansville en route to his second straight week as Big 12 Rookie of the Week. His game-high 21 points and six steals against Arkansas helped the Tigers to their first victory over the Razorbacks in 14 years. The 6-foot, 175-pound player snagged a career-high six rebounds in a 73-54 victory over Evansville.
Keyon Dooling was the last Tiger to receive such honors during the 1998-1999 season. Dooling was also named to the Big 12 All-Freshman team and Honorable Mention All-Big 12 team.
EeTisha Riddle receives first-ever Big 12 Player of the Week honors
Two 20-point games for senior center EeTisha Riddle earned her the Phillips 66 Big 12 Player of the Week award while the record for the women's team improved to 7-1. In the State Farm Tiger Classic, Riddle protected her home court with a career-high 20 points and six steals in a 70-66 Tiger victory over Creighton. Eighteen hours later, she matched the performance with an 82 percent shooting percentage in 24 minutes of play. Her efforts earned her MVP of the tournament and helped the Tigers clinch the championship against Alabama A&M.
Wrestling team notches first Cliff Keen title
In one of the most prestigious invitationals in the country, the No. 2 Tigers recorded 157 points, compared to runner-up Michigan's 109 points, to capture its first Cliff Keen Las Vegas Invitational title.
Defending national champion Ben Askren swept through the competition with pins in all five of his matches, including a 46-second pin in the championship match against Matt Harrington of Pennsylvania.
Askren earned Most Outstanding Wrestler and Gorrarian honors for most pins in the tournament.
His brother, redshirt freshman Maxwell Askren, won the 197-pound category.
He beat No. 2 ranked Jerry Rinaldi of Cornell for the title. With the victory, the No. 3 ranked Maxwell Askren has beaten three of the nation's Top 5 wrestlers.
Senior All-American Matt Pell finished a career-high second in the tournament, losing 5-3 Michigan's Eric Tannenbaum.
Women's Gymnastics Ranked No. 18 in Preseason Poll
The GymInfo Preseason Coaches' Poll ranked last year's No. 14 Tigers at No. 18 last Friday. Defending national champion Georgia sits as the No. 1 ranked team while Big 12 rivals Oklahoma and Nebraska were ranked No. 7 and No. 10 respectively.
Iowa State is ranked No. 13. The Tigers will also compete against No. 6 Michigan and No. 15 Arkansas in non-conference match-ups this season.
