Professors to deliver Saturday science lectures
Published Feb. 3, 2006
This past week marked the return of a three-month series of Saturday morning science lectures sponsored by the
Office of Research.
Don't stop reading. There will be free coffee and bagels.
Mike Roberts presented his lecture, "Maternal Diet and the Sex of the Offspring," in Monsanto Auditorium this past Saturday, restarting a recent activity in the MU science community.
Physics professor Wouter Montfrooij created the free lecture series in the fall of 2004.
The lectures are scheduled for Saturday mornings from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m.
Bruce McClure, professor of biochemistry and co-organizer of the lecture series, said future topics will include "The Accelerating Universe," and "Climate, Climates Change and Hurricanes."
The series will conclude on April 15 with "Explosions Effects and Blast Resistant Design," presented by Sam Kiger, director of the National Center for Explosion Resistant Design.
Biology professor Rex Cocroft will present this Saturday's lecture, "What the Bugs in Your Yard Talk About."
"We will have 10 to 12 professors lecturing each semester," McClure said, adding that food would be provided at the lectures.
"We get money from Dr. Coleman's office from the Office of Research that pays for
the bagels and coffee," he said.
McClure said other sponsors include the departments of biochemistry, physics and astronomy.
All lectures are open to the public and will be presented in the Monsanto Auditorium in the Life Sciences Center.
