For the second time in a little more than a month, the Subway restaurant at 2101 W. Broadway was robbed. The robbery, which occurred on Wednesday, marks the fourth time this Subway restaurant has been robbed in two years.

MU junior Brendan Wilson was the only employee working at the restaurant on Wednesday night when the robbery occurred.

"It was about 10:45, and we close at 11, so I was making a sandwich to go, and as I wrapped it up these two guys came in the door with a knife that was about a foot long and started screaming at me," Wilson said.

He said the suspects held him at knifepoint and forced him to open the register. The suspects took the cash drawer and a cash box that was underneath it, which contained between $500 and $520.

"It happened really fast," he said.

Wilson said there is an emergency button under the cash register, but he was unable to press it because the incident happened so quickly.

Wilson said he would not quit his job because of the robbery.

According to a Columbia Police Department news release, the two suspects left the restaurant on foot.

According to West District Patrol Sgt. Shelley Jones, there were no customers in the restaurant at the time of the robbery. She said to her knowledge, there had not been any developments in the case since the news release was issued.

Wilson said cameras, which had been used to notify employees of customers entering the store, are now loaded with tapes to record criminal incidents because of last month's robbery. Wilson said he was not sure if the robbers were caught on tape because of their position in the restaurant in relation to the camera.

He also said the restaurant would close at 10 p.m. instead of 11 p.m. and two employees would close it instead of just one.

In a Feb. 8 interview, Columbia police Sgt. Ken Hammond said the restaurant had also been robbed in July 2004, June 2005 and on Feb. 6.
