Dirt bike in accident maybe stolen

The dirt bike at the center of a seven-vehicle accident last weekend might have been stolen earlier that day, but the bike's owner has not yet contacted the department, according to a Columbia Police Department news release.
St. Charles resident Jesse Davis was driving on U.S. 63 when he swerved into the another lane and collided with MU freshman Travis Odle's Pontiac Grand Am. The accident occurred on Aug. 19 at approximately 11:39 p.m. Davis sustained fatal injuries after he was thrown and hit by four other vehicles. None of the other drivers were injured.
Columbia police Capt. Zim Schwartze said the bike might have been stolen from an event in New Bloomfield. She said the department is still trying to verify if the bike is the one reported missing.
"The bike is kind of a second priority right now," Schwartze said.
She said the other drivers involved in the crash were not at fault and will not be charged with any violations.
Funeral services for Davis will be held noon on Friday at the Baue Chapel in St. Charles. He will be buried at St. Charles Memorial Gardens.
