Students to get a look at new Brady

Students passing through Kuhlman Court will soon be greeted by a new sight — a large mock-up of the walls for the forthcoming expansion of Brady Commons.
The 11-by-17 foot stone mock-up, which will be visible to anyone walking through Kuhlman Court, is a smaller-scale representation of what the outer walls of the new student center will look like.
Student Auxiliary Services spokesman Matt Sokoloff said the mock-up is a regular part of the construction process.
"I like to think of it as a paint-by-number, and when the contractor is selected, he will build (the student center) according to the mock-up's design," he said.
Though the mock-up is being built out of necessity, its position in the middle of Kuhlman Court is a strategic public relations maneuver, Sokoloff said.
"It gives us a great opportunity to show off exactly what the building will look like," Sokoloff said.
The organizations responsible for the construction of the new student center have held several information sessions to help dispel confusion and have planned at least one more in September.
Missouri Students Association Vice President Brooke Moody said she attended several meetings.
"We have been to the information sessions that they have held for the students, and if students want to know more about it, there's a Web site they can go to," Moody said.
That Web site address is bradyexpansion.com.
The first phase of the expansion is expected to the completed in Fall Semester 2008. The second phase will open in 2010. It is projected to cost about $60 million, with just a little more than 50 percent coming from student fees. Ground-breaking on the project is scheduled for Oct. 20.
