Two suspects were arrested early Wednesday morning after allegedly attacking a pedestrian and stealing her purse.

According to a Columbia Police Department news release, three suspects approached the victim at approximately 3 a.m. in a Ford Taurus. One suspect exited the vehicle and struck the victim with a blunt object. The suspect then took the victim's purse, and all three left in the vehicle.

Two of the three suspects were arrested shortly after the robbery.

"They got a pretty good description, and the suspects were apparently still in the area," Columbia police spokesman Brad Nelson said.

According to the Boone County Sheriff's Department Web site, 21-year-old Nichole Barrett was arrested and charged with committing an armed criminal act and first and second-degree assault. Barrett's bail was set at $30,000.

Nelson said a 16-year-old male was also taken into custody, but he said that because he is a minor, no other information is available.

The officers who stopped the suspect's car did not believe they had probable cause to arrest the third suspect.

Police say they are confident that the suspects are not related to the three strong-armed robberies on or near campus earlier this month, Nelson said. The prior robberies all targeted women who were walking alone at night.
