Police found a local man in Chariton County a week after his family reported him missing to Columbia police.
Adam Henke's family members contacted the Columbia Police Department on Tuesday to report his disappearance since Sept. 18, according to a Columbia police news release. Henke was found dead by members of the Chariton County Sheriff's Office on Thursday. He was 26.
Henke's vehicle was located on a gravel road six miles north of Salisbury and was not damaged, said Larry Breshears, Chariton County coroner. After officers found Henke's vehicle, they contacted the Columbia Police Department at approximately 10:30 a.m.
According to the release, the Chariton County Sheriff's Office contacted Columbia police again to inform them that a dead individual had been found near the vehicle.
Henke's body was found on the banks of the Chariton County River, between 120 and 130 yards east of the Berger Road Bridge, Breshears said.
Henke died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound, Breshears said. His family has been notified of his death.
